KSA publishes licensing trademark for Dutch online gambling

Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Netherlands gambling regulatory authority, has revealed its ‘licensed trademark’ that operators must display across their digital portfolios as a duty of the ‘Remote Gambling Act’ (KOA Act).

At present, KSA maintains its rescheduled timetable for the implementation of the KOA Act regime, with the regulatory agency launching Dutch online gambling’s licensing window on 1 April.

Approved KOA operators must display the ‘Vergunninghouder Kansspelautoriteit’ (‘Licensed by Kansspelautoriteit’) trademark on their website and mobile app download pages.
Dutch consumers must be able to click on the trademark and be redirected to the KSA licensing page, informing the user of the KOA operators full licensing provisions.

Last January, KSA postponed the launch of the KOA licensing regime by one month following last-minute orders by Sander Dekker, Netherlands’ Legal Protections Minister, who judged that KOA technical provisions needed to be revised.

Following further Kamer (Dutch House of Representatives) consultations, the KOA regime was amended to include new technical standards that operators must disclose to KSA upon applying for individual licences.

Further amendments saw KSA enforce that all online gambling operators must comply with the statutory duties of the IMF guidelines on money laundering and anti-terrorist financing.

Provided no further delays are sanctioned by KSA or the Kamer, the Netherlands regulated online gambling marketplace will officially launch on 1 October 2021.
